SCO Summit: Mithun’s “I am a Disco Dancer” rocks the event in Uzbekistan


Popular Indian songs played in Uzbekistan ahead of the 2022 SCO meeting on Friday. ‘Jimmi Jimmi Jimmi’ and ‘I am a disco dancer’ were performed in Uzbekistan at a dinner for international media on Thursday.

A video shared on social networking site Twitter shows the singers singing the ever-popular Bollywood songs and the crowd having fun dancing to the tracks.

This is however not the first time that popular Hindi numbers have been seen in Uzbekistan, reports indicate that Hindi and Indian songs remain popular in Uzbekistan, with Uzebeki radio also having a Hindi broadcast.

In July this year, External Affairs Minister (EAM) S Jaishankar also tweeted a video of people singing the title song of Bol radha bol filmed with Rishi Kapoor and Juhi Chawla.

EAM wrote: “Another reminder from SCO Tashkent why Central Asia is our extended neighborhood.”

During his official visit to Uzbekistan, Prime Minister Narendra Modi also hailed the special bond the two countries share.

He wrote on Twitter: “Indian movies, language and music are very popular in Uzbekistan. In 2012, Uzbek Radio completed 50 years of broadcasting in Hindi”

The SCO’s first-ever in-person summit takes place after the pandemic, attended by heads of state from eight member states, namely China, India, Kazakhstan, Kyrgyzstan, Russia, Pakistan, Tajikistan and Uzbekistan. India is ready to assume the annual rotating presidency of the SCO at the end of the summit.

SCO member countries represent 30% of world GDP and 40% of world population.
