PM Modi to meet with West Bengal BJP MPs amid Birbhum case and assembly heckling


Prime Minister Narendra Modi will meet BJP MPs from West Bengal at a breakfast meeting on March 30. The meeting between Prime Minister Modi and MPs will take place on Wednesday morning at 7 LKM in New Delhi.

The meeting comes in the context of the Birbhum violence which left 9 people dead. The victims, including two children, were burned to death in the Rampurhat area after a violent mob allegedly burned houses with petrol bombs following the murder of TMC leader Bhadu Sheikh. The autopsy report of the victims revealed that the women and children were beaten up before being burned alive.

In the aftermath of the horrific massacre, a physical altercation erupted between BJP and TMC MPs at the West Bengal Assembly on Monday when saffron party workers attempted to protest the incident. Several party leaders were injured.

West Bengal BJP MPs beaten, Suvendu Adhikari suspended

Chaos erupted inside the West Bengal Assembly on Monday after MPs from the Bharatiya Janata Party and Trinamool Congress clashed. BJP MPs have come forward to claim they were assaulted by TMC MPs inside the Assembly. As a result of the incident, the opposition leader in the West Bengal Assembly, Suvendu Adhikari, was suspended. The row broke out after BJP MPs shouted slogans about Birbhum’s violence. About 8 to 10 BJP MPs were seriously injured, according to Adhikari.

According to images viewed by Republic TV, deputies could be seen crowding the floors of the Assembly, fighting against each other. Following the incident, BJP IT cell chief Amit Malviya also took to Twitter to share a video of the chaos that followed the assembly. Sharing the footage of the scuffle that unfolded, Amit Malviya questioned Mamata Banerjee-led TMC government for trying to hide something.
