HYDERABAD: Alleged torture of instant loan app operators has claimed the life of another person in the city.

Y Sudhakar, a firefighter working with the Telangana Fire Department and delegate to the Chandulal Bharadari fire station in the city, committed suicide. His body was found on the train tracks near Shivarampally station on the outskirts of the city on Tuesday. The railway police registered a case and opened an investigation.

According to the police, Sudhakar (33), belonging to Balapur, had worked in the fire service for more than a decade. Recently, he availed loans on some instant loan apps. But he was unable to pay the installments. As a result, agents from these app companies started harassing him.

Sudhakar’s family members told police that these officers began sending messages to his friends and family informing them that he was in default. They also started calling and mistreating them.

On Tuesday morning, railway staff noticed a body on the train tracks and alerted railway police, who later identified it as Sudhakar’s using their mobile phone.

After checking with his family and his mobile phone, police confirmed that he had been pushed to an extreme step due to the harassment he faced from officers.

Prima facie, a case under Section 174 of the CrPC (Police shall investigate and report a suicide) has now been registered at the Kacheguda Railway Police Station upon complaint from Railway officers. Based on the evidence, the investigation will continue, the railway police said.
