Position Title : Field Nutrition Officer

Location: Idlib-Qah

Purpose of the position

The Nutrition Officer will be the person responsible for overseeing nutrition projects and monitoring and tracking technical and operational activities with partners so that they are implemented in an efficient, high quality and timely manner, contributing thus to the quality of nutrition implementation. project implemented in northwestern Syria. Under the supervision of the Health Coordinator and District Coordinator, the Field Nutrition Officer will be responsible for maintaining partnership and close working relationships with implementing partners on technical issues related to nutrition in order to to identify gaps, build capacity and improve coordination, and will also be responsible for identifying possible points of collaboration with local civil society organizations that focus on nutrition and work in a WV site to create synergies.

Main responsibilities

1. Technical

  • Identify key gaps and priorities for intervention in nutrition programs in North West Syria and participate in needs assessment.
  • Provide professional expertise and support WVI partners in nutrition grant execution.
  • Develop tools and means to monitor the implementation of project activities through lessons learned from previous projects.
  • Provide technical expertise and develop a consolidated nutrition plan by extracting relevant information from the grant with the nutrition component.
  • Provide professional expertise to other sector staff including Protection, WASH, Health and Livelihoods to mainstream nutrition and build synergy.
  • Provide technical guidance in the preparation and review of bids while conducting technical assessment of supplies and equipment needed for nutrition projects;
  • Provide technical expertise, coordinate and develop a capacity building plan for field staff in the nutrition sector by providing the necessary trainings
  • Assess and maintain a record of nutrition service availability and functionality profile
  • Maintain nutritional supply status database in coordination with WVI partners.
  • Facilitate joint supervisions with other wv sector teams to track progress and review wv partner performance on nutrition
  • Monitor the status of key nutrition sector indicators in WV implementation area.
  • In line with WV nutrition priorities and international guidelines, suggest context-appropriate implementation modalities.
  • Work closely with the field team to mobilize community representatives, community organizations, local community leaders, etc. for creating demand and adopting a healthy lifestyle.
  • Ensure plot plans are aligned with WVI expectations and community needs
  • Identify and recommend areas where resources are lacking in the field
  • Identify areas for research, documentation and learning
  • Prepare technical monitoring sheets to monitor the progress of Nutrition projects.
  • Regularly visit project sites/activities and provide on-the-job training for staff;
  • When requested by Health Technical Assistance, effectively represent WV in Nutrition Cluster meetings, partners and other nutrition-related technical meetings and share meeting minutes with PSOs and the Health Technical Advisor.
  • Explain and communicate WV programming values ​​to partners and stakeholders

2. Coordination

  • In coordination with the Health Coordinator, provide technical review of MEAL reports with respect to monitoring and accountability results;
  • Collaborate with the MEAL team and the Health Coordinator to establish and support the implementation of a context-specific complaints and feedback mechanism across all operational areas.
  • Improved transparency; efforts are not duplicated and wasted.

3.Reports

  • Review monthly reports from wv supported partner and field team in the field.
  • Provide support for VM nutrition reporting.
  • Compile nutrition reports from the field, conduct data analysis to inform decision-making and implementation

4. Knowledge management

  • Develop case studies, success stories, reports on best practices and key lessons learned from nutrition sector implementation on a quarterly basis
  • Lead brainstorming sessions on nutrition issues in collaboration with the field team, partners and other relevant stakeholders.
  • Design new approaches, strategies or implementation modalities to improve the effectiveness of health and nutrition programs

Knowledge/Qualifications for the role

1. Professional experience required

  • Minimum of 3 years of experience in nutrition programming, preferably in an NGO environment.

2. Education, Training, License, Registration and Certification Required

  • Bachelor’s degree in public health, nutrition, medicine or related degrees

3. Preferred Knowledge and Qualifications

  • Knowledge of Syrian public sector health systems, NGOs and community organizations is highly desirable.
  • Experience working with local communities in implementing health interventions is essential

  • Ability to maintain performance expectations in various cultural contexts, psychologically stressful environment and physical challenges

6. Language requirements

  • Strong communication skills in Arabic and English (oral and written)
