The annual Al Safeer Congress Ambassador Program Appreciation Ceremony was held at the Dubai Exhibition Center at Expo 2020 Dubai
Dubai, United Arab Emirates: Dubai’s Department of Economy and Tourism (DET) honored members of the Al Safeer Congress Ambassador Program – including medical professionals, scientists, industry experts , academics, business leaders and government officials – who have led successful bids to bring global business events to Dubai. Dubai Business Events (DBE), the city’s official convention bureau and a division of DET, presented awards to 20 member organizations at the annual program appreciation ceremony, held on March 3 in Dubai Exhibition Centre, on the site of Expo 2020 Dubai.
As Dubai continues to lead the global recovery of the business events sector, winning bids from Ambassadors are helping to grow the pipeline of conferences, congresses and meetings taking place in the city over the next few years and offer platforms for knowledge sharing, professional development and networking.
As the city continued to present a compelling proposition for international associations, societies and other entities for their major events, Al Safeer’s congress ambassador program last year supported securing 26 conferences and congresses that will be held in Dubai over the next few years, intended to attract over 35,000 industry-specific professionals and experts from around the world. Events won in 2021 with Ambassador contributions include: 27th General Conference of the International Council of Museums (2025), IEEE Wireless Communications and Networking Conference (2024), World Science and Technology Education Conference (2023) and Congress of the Society International Association of Peritoneal Dialysis (2024).
Issam Kazim, Managing Director of the Dubai Corporation for Tourism and Commerce Marketing, said: “In recognition of their commitment and vital contributions to Dubai’s growing status as an international hub for business events, we congratulate and express our gratitude to all of our Ambassadors for their efforts in 2021. As Dubai continues to focus on being a knowledge and innovation hub, hosting international business events is an essential part of both to place the city at the heart of global conversations and to attract experts in their respective fields. And with associations recognizing the power of in-person meetings and events more than ever, our ambassadors are giving the city a competitive edge demonstrating to decision-makers the benefits of hosting their conferences and conventions in Dubai.
In addition to the awards, the event also saw DET provide delegates with insight into how Dubai’s tourism sector continues to lead the global rebound, while Expo 2020 Dubai showcased the site’s legacy plans, which will become District 2020. A panel discussion featuring members of the Al Safeer program also explored lessons learned from bidding and event planning. Meanwhile, international speakers and entrepreneur Krzysztof Celuch detailed the importance of events in university life.
Established in 2010, the Al Safeer Congress Ambassador Program has been central to Dubai’s growth as a business event destination, by the end of 2021, playing a role in the success of over 200 events with almost 250,000 delegates present in Dubai.
