dead Pool fans who were worried about Marvel Studios’ attempt to make the Merc with a Mouth more family-friendly for the third iteration can now rest easy! Rhett Reese and Paul Wernick recently insured THR“Deadpool is going to be Deadpool!”
Ever since Disney acquired studio 20th Century Fox, fans have rejoiced in the return of various Marvel characters like the X-men and the other Mutants. However, they also speculated that Deadpool, an R-rated character, might lose his edge as the MCU might try to mold him into a “family” image. However, this does not look like the case.
The duo, who have writing credits on the first two dead Pool movies, further joked that they had been locked in a “secret vault under an ocean somewhere” to work on the new script. Nonetheless, the studio was far behind their writing. Reese explained:
Now, when it comes to a particular joke, if we cross a line, we might at some point hear, “Maybe not that joke.” But I think they’ve been incredibly supportive of what we’re doing, because obviously we’ve been doing it separately for a long time, and I think they’ve seen success and they’ve had their own even bigger success . So I hope this will be a marriage made in heaven. But we definitely have their support, and that’s a good thing to feel.
Reese also added, “It’s an absolute pleasure to bring the band together, to have a new backdrop in the MCU with new characters, new villains, that kind of stuff. You know, it’s never a marriage that we necessarily saw coming.”
Both dead Pool the films were a major hit with $783.1 million and $785.8 million respectively at the worldwide box office. Wendy Molyneux and Lizzie Molyneux-Logelinknown for their work on Bob’s Burgers, were working on the script for the third installment before Reese and Wenrick took over; how much of the original project will be incorporated into the final film remains to be seen.
Although there is not much information about the new dead Pool given Marvel Studios’ penchant for secrecy, the writers’ assurance matches what we’ve heard from other big studio wigs. Director of Marvel Studios, Kevin Feigeas well as the head of Disney, Bob Igerpreviously assured fans that the Merc with a Mouth will definitely remain R-rated. Additionally, the actor Ryan Reynolds talked about the new direction of the dead Pool movies, “[We are] looking to go in a completely different direction,” adding, “a lot of times they reboot or change a character maybe like four movies too late.
Dead Pool 3 under the MCU banner will be led by Shawn Levywho previously collaborated with Reynolds on free guy and Netflix’s recent The Adam Project.
Currently, there is no release date set for Dead Pool 3.
