After years of toiling away in a small inner-city apartment, making music in his bedroom closet, young rapper Courtney Rose is ready for his big break. Tired of waiting for opportunity, Courtney cooks up the publicity stunt of the century -- running for mayor of his hometown in California to generate buzz for his music career. His master plan goes wildly awry, ending in the most terrifying of outcomes: an election victory. The Mayor: Season 1 | Rotten Tomatoes (1) Dana Schwartz Entertainment Weekly Producers Jeremy Bronson (Speechless) and Hamilton alum Daveed Diggs have done the impossible: created an entirely un-cynical political parody. Rated: A- Oct 16, 2017 Full Review The Mayor: Season 1 | Rotten Tomatoes (2) Margaret Lyons New York Times It's practically begging to be the heir to the Modern Family throne: earnest, family-friendly, smart. (Sleep with one eye open, The Goldbergs.) It's even more sincere than Speechless, and almost as political as black-ish. Oct 12, 2017 Full Review The Mayor: Season 1 | Rotten Tomatoes (3) Soraya Nadia McDonald Andscape The premise of The Mayor is certainly interesting, but what I've seen so far doesn't necessarily make me excited about where the show will go once Courtney has to actually start governing. Oct 5, 2017 Full Review The Mayor: Season 1 | Rotten Tomatoes (4) Carolyn Hinds Black Girl Nerds I have missed seeing Yvette on television, she's hilarious and gives awesome pep talks. Aug 5, 2021 Full Review The Mayor: Season 1 | Rotten Tomatoes (5) Alan French AwardsCircuit.com With a talented cast, solid writing and an optimistic view, this series should flourish. Rated: 3.5/4 Oct 10, 2018 Full Review The Mayor: Season 1 | Rotten Tomatoes (6) Rob Owen Pittsburgh Post-Gazette The pilot doesn't encourage viewers to return for episode two. Audience Member It started out alright, and ended alright, but in the middle it was just not that great. Not that the beginning and end of the season were that great, either! I think my favorite episode is probably Episode 11 (The Lockdown.!) The ending should be satisfying enough, for fans who realize that it wasn't the planned ending! I'm not sad that this was cancelled. By the way, I'm not sure if I already had a review written out before for this, or not! I thought that I saw a rating, and words/text, but it didn't load up, I don't think? I think that that's what happened? I don't honestly fully remember. I think that I accidentally clicked out of this, or something, when it happened. Yeah, maybe that's that was it! Rated 2.5/5 Stars • Rated 2.5 out of 5 stars 01/09/23 Full Review Audience Member BEST TV SERIES EVER! I am a huge fan of Lea Michele and love her in this show! However, I also really like the actors who play Courtney Rose and his mom and his two best friends from high school! This show has made me like other things than just Disney Channel again! Thank you so much ABC and Lea Michele! Rated 5/5 Stars • Rated 5 out of 5 stars 01/09/23 Full Review Audience Member Cute a little formulaic but nice to see people working together to make the community better. Really like the engagement between TK (Marcel Spears), Jermaine (Bernard David Jones) and Val (Lea Michele). Rated 5/5 Stars • Rated 5 out of 5 stars 01/09/23 Full Review Audience Member One of the best new TV comedies I've seen in years. Cannot recommend it enough -- the cast is absolutely fantastic. Rated 5/5 Stars • Rated 5 out of 5 stars 01/09/23 Full Review Audience Member This TV show has the correct balance of funny and seriousness. As it tackles the idealism of the reality of the way people ives, it has its funny moments. Rated 5/5 Stars • Rated 5 out of 5 stars 01/09/23 Full Review Audience Member I want to like this. It's got a great premise and a great cast, but the music isn't great. There's like hardly any jokes. It feels like a Teen Nick show, dialogue and writing-wise.I'm hoping it gets better. I'm going to stick with it, regardless. Rated 2.5/5 Stars • Rated 2.5 out of 5 stars 01/09/23 Full Review Read all reviews
